Police have launched an investigation after an 18-year-old man was assaulted by two men in the early hours of the morning.

The victim was leaving the Boston Brothers bar on Trinity Street, Hanley, when he was approached by two men who punched him and knocked him to the ground.

The attackers stayed in the area for a short time before being seen heading towards Fiction, a night club on nearby Gitana Street.

The victim, who is from Stoke-on-Trent, received injuries to his head and face and was treated in hospital.

This morning (Tuesday November 20) police released CCTV images of two men they want to speak to following the assault - which took place at 1.30am on Tuesday October 30.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "The first offender was described as an Asian man wearing a blue jacket. The second, was white and wearing a black jacket, with a white top and trainers.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Halim Fazal via Halim.Fazal@staffordshire.pnn.police.uk quoting incident 16 of October 30."

Staffordshire Police received 428 reports of crime in the Etruria and Hanley policing neighbourhood, which includes the area this incident took place in, in September 2018 according to the latest figures released by the Home Office.

These included 184 reports of anti-social behaviour, four reports of bicycle theft, 14 of burglary, 21 of criminal damage and arson, five drugs offences, 34 of 'other theft', two of possession of weapons, 16 of public order, six of robbery, 35 of shoplifting, five of theft from the person, eight of vehicle crime, 89 of violence and sexual offences and five described as 'other crime'.
