One of Stoke-on-Trent's most popular hotels is now being used by the homeless so they can maintain social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Half of the residents at the Macari Centre in Hanley have now been given an en-suite room at the Holiday Inn Express, in Trentham Lakes.

The the other half have remained at the Regent Road centre.

The Holiday Inn is rated as Stoke-on-Trent's fourth most popular hotel with a solid four out of five on TripAdvisor.

On the travel website, it rates one place ahead of the Moat House in Etruria which is the city's only four star hotel, and behind Hanley's Premier Inn, The Travelodge in Trentham and the Premier Inn next to Trentham Gardens.

A typical night's stay in a double room for two adults costs £99.

"Each room offers a private shower room with a hairdryer, a 32-inch flat-screen TV, a work area with a telephone and free tea and coffee.

"A buffet breakfast selection, including hot items, is served every morning. The snack menu offers soup, paninis, pizzas and other hot food, and guests can enjoy the onsite bar."

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been looking to move residents out of the Macari Centre, in Hanley, since March following Government lockdown instructions to close down dormitory-style shelters.
