A man has been taken to hospital after being freed from a van following a collision on the M6 motorway this morning.

The accident took place on the northbound carriageway between Junction 14 (Stafford North) and Junction 15 (Stoke-on-Trent/A500) at around 8am today (Saturday June 15).

Two lanes of the motorway were closed as a result of the collision - with a lorry also understood to be involved.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the man, a passenger in the vehicle, was trapped by his legs and had to be cut free.

They added firefighters from Stafford, Eccleshall and Longton had attended the accident.

Yesterday, Friday June 14, there was considerable disruption and the motorway was closed for several hours as firefighters worked to rescue a lorry driver whose vehicle had left the carriageway and gone down an embankment on the northbound carriageway between junction 13 (Stafford South) and junction 14.

The driver in that incident was taken to hospital with 'potentially serious injuries' - with long traffic delays continuing for most of the day.
