Motorists are advised to expect delays as a wide-load makes its way through the area this weekend.

The 491 ton electrical transformer will set off from General Electric on Lichfield Road in Stafford at 8am on Sunday (November 18).

The load will then travel up the A34 via Stone, Newcastle and Talke before crossing into Cheshire.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "This Sunday 8am wide load from Stafford, General Electric Lichfield Road/Asda/Weston Road/Beaconside then A34 north to Stone & Newcastle-under-Lyme then Talke at county border, short delays & diversions will happen as we make safe passage for the wide load."

The last wide load travelled through the area on Monday.

After crossing into Cheshire on Sunday the load will travel up onto the A54 near Congleton.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "This load will be setting off at approximately 08:00 hours from Lichfield Road in Staffordshire.

"Our Road Policing Team will collect it on the A34 near Red Bull Traffic lights at approximately 1130 hours, this should take about 90 minutes to arrive at Browns Bank on the A54.

"The load is an electrical transformer, the total weight is 491tonnes, the route it takes can be viewed here."

On Monday morning the police escort will leave Browns Bank at 9.30am, travelling towards Holmes Chapel and arriving at Kelsall. It will complete the final leg of its journey to Ellesmere Port docks on Tuesday.
