Paul Beesley might have played four seasons in the Premier League and wracked up 604 senior matches for clubs including Port Vale, Manchester City, Sheffield United and Leeds.

But to Amazon Prime, who are preparing to broadcast live top flight games when sport returns next month, he was just, 'This guy'.

To be fair, the rest of their Tweet was bang on the money.

"This guy's reaction to the Premier League re-start is gold," they told their 400,000 followers.

In the clip filmed by Beesley's son he says: "This is unbelievable Jeff.

"This is how many games are on in a week; one on Monday, two on Tuesday (three), two on Wednesday (five), two on Thursday (seven), one of Friday (eight), four on Saturday (12) and four... Sixteen a week!"

The 54-year-old former centre-back then does kicks his leg in the air with a scream of delight.

Amazon later added: "As many of you rightly point out, it's former PL defender Paul Beesley, whose enthusiasm for the game clearly hasn't left him."

Beesley joined Vale as a free agent after leaving Manchester City in 1998 - and he scored one of the club's quickest goals when he found the net against Bristol City after just 35 seconds.

John Rudge welcomes Paul Beesley to Port Vale in 1998.

He played a significant part in the club's survival that season - playing at centre-half or sweeper and known as a chirpy member of the changing room, who gave him the nickname Basil thanks to his resemblance to the Fawlty Towers legend.

But he was released by new manager Brian Horton and went on to play for Blackpool and Chester City before heading into coaching and, with Ipswich Town, taking on kit man duties.
