Premier League goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has spoken out after contracting coronavirus.

The England Under 21s international, who was born in Stoke-on-Trent and grew up in Chesterton, tested positive on Friday after training but is asymptomatic.

The 22-year-old Bournemouth player initially tested negative for the virus last Monday but has since caught Covid-19 in between tests.

It is believed he was infected while shopping at the supermarket.

Ramsdale, who attended Thomas Boughey High School, told  The Sun: "It's definitely a shock - I've not been in contact with anybody and I've now got it.

"I'm showing no symptoms so the fact that a healthy young person could potentially have it is definitely scary and worrying.

"It's obviously not great that I've got it but it's good that I'm showing no symptoms.

"It's one of those things that has unfortunately happened and happened to me."

Ramsdale became the second player in England's top-flight to confirm the positive test, following Watford's Adrian Mariappa in doing so.

Ramsdale will now continue to isolate with his girlfriend for a seven-day period before being tested again and being allowed to return to training.

Another Premier League player also tested positive for coronavirus after a second round of tests that took 996 samples from players and staff from around the league, with the club deciding to not name the player.
