Stagecoach North Scotland has announced plans to introduce a link between the strath and Moray.

It is part of new timetable changes which the firm has said will enhance the bus service in the strath, Moray and Speyside over the summer months.

The increased services in the area follow on from trials in previous years.

A new service will be introduced from July 8 connecting Aviemore with Duffotwn and Elgin.

This new bus connection will provide links to Citylink services in Aviemore either for those travelling south to Glasgow or for visitors connecting to the Moray area without the need for a connection in Inverness.

Through tickets will be available to book on the Citylink website.

Service 39 will operate three return journeys per day connecting Aviemore with Elgin and four return trips on Saturdays.

The service will be closely monitored over the trial period of July 8 until October 26.

Services in Aviemore will also be revised form the same date following the introduction of service 39.

Service 34 between Aviemore and Inverness will also no longer serve Ian Charles Hospital in Grantown following concerns regarding the current turning point at Castle Grant.

The route will be revised and journeys will operate to Grantown Square via Burnfield Avenue, Heathfield Road and the B9102 before returning to Castle Road.

In addition to this, the summer Sunday service between Dufftown and Elgin will return from July 14 until October 27.

Following a successful trial in 2018 the service will return on a two-hourly frequency during the day providing connections for residents in Speyside to connect to Elgin or for those visiting the area.

David Liston, managing director for Stagecoach North Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be able to take the learnings and feedback on board from previous trials in the Moray area to provide another new link over the summer this year connecting Dufftown with Aviemore.

"We are committed to making travelling by bus as attractive an option for all as possible and will look forward to welcoming everyone on board from July 8.”

Peter Knight, operations director at Citylink, said: “We’re pleased to be able to work with our partners at Stagecoach North Scotland to provide integrated journey opportunities on Scottish Citylink services to and from the Central Belt as well as Inverness through connections onto these services at Aviemore.

"Customers wishing to buy their ticket and book their seat in advance can do so on the Scottish Citylink website from July 8 at www.citylink.co.uk.”

Ranald Robertson, Partnership Director at Hitrans said: “Hitrans welcome this very positive step from Stagecoach which will provide an important link in the transport network in Moray and Highland.

"This service will provide a real missing link in service between Aberlour and Grantown giving welcome new opportunities to travel for a range of purposes.

"Hopefully people will recognise the opportunity and support Stagecoach to ensure the service is a great success.”

The new timetables are now available to download at stagecoachbus.com. Inverness zone 4 tickets will be valid for travel on all services between Inverness, Aviemore, Dufftown and Elgin.
