MLSsoccer.com writer Sam Stejskal reports that the Portland Timbers are finishing a loan deal with Argentine club River Plate for right back Jorge Moreira, with an option to buy at the end of the season. He writes that the deal will be completed using Targeted Allocation Money.

The 29-year-old Paraguayan international has 17 caps with his national team, the last being in a World Cup qualifier in October 2017. Not long after, a knee injury kept him off the field for ten months, and he missed most of the 2018 World Cup.

Moreira joined River Plate in July 2016, and appeared in 49 matches between then and his 2017 knee injury. Since coming back from injury last summer, he has only played in nine matches.

The Timbers will have the option to buy his contract for $3 million, according to Doble Amarilla.
