It’s never too early to learn when you’re a kid and when you’re having fun it makes the experience much more rewarding. The Weston Warriors Lacrosse Club recreation program has earned a reputation of producing excellent players who have enjoyed great success at the high school level and even in college. The travel recreational program just celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The organization has created a blueprint plan that young teams are following with great success. The Weston Warriors U8 Girls Club concluded a successful season where they went 10-0 in the South Florida Youth Lacrosse League. The 8U division comprised four leagues: Weston, Boca Raton, Parkland and Delray Beach.

The Weston Warriors have a solid boys program and are on a mission to rebuild up the girls program. Currently there are U8, U10, U12 and U14 girls clubs. The U8 coaching staff was led by Medon Michaelides, Bobby Zervos, Fedor de Marchena and Jason Huey.

“You build a strong foundation from the ground up and our younger clubs are a feeder program for the older teams as they age up,” Michaelides said. “Weston has produced high quality players. We want to get the players started at a young age and give them exposure to what lacrosse is all about. It’s all about developing skills and awareness of the game.”

The Warriors had only seven players on the U8 squad, which made their accomplishments even more impressive.

“I am so proud of how the team played and even though we were always outnumbered by teams that had 15 to 20 players on the roster, we were never outplayed,” he said. “The progress the team made was incredible. We had some players who never picked up a stick before this season. We really focused on the core fundamentals. Practices were rigorous, intense and the girls loved it. They bonded well and loved to compete.”

At the conclusion of the season, the coaches and players put together the Weston Lightning travel club and went 3-1 in tournament play.

Members on the Weston Warriors U8 club are Kooper Brown, Ellie Koch, Raquel de Marchena, Athena Michaelides, Bianca Murges, Olivia Wolf and Gabriela Zervos.
