The bodies of two people were found in a Deerfield Beach home and Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are treating it as a homicide case.

The bodies of a 24-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were discovered about 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at 411 N.E. 39th St., officials said.

The woman’s coworkers from a doctor’s office discovered the bodies, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright.

“She hadn’t come to work. They were concerned,” she said. “They looked into the house through an open door, saw one of the victims and then called 911.”

The woman lived alone at that address and, besides the medical office, she also worked at a restaurant.

Detectives were not saying who they were or how they were killed. It’s classified as a homicide but they could not say whether it is a double murder or murder suicide. They await autopsies.

Neighbor Catherine Sanders, 76, has lived on the next street for 43 years. Her house and the crime scene share a backyard.

She is a school crossing guard who went to bed about 9 p.m. Tuesday but awoke about 10 p.m. when she heard gunfire.

“We heard about 6 or 7 shots, pow, pow, pow, pow,” she said. “The shots woke me up.”

She heard about three shots but her son heard seven, she said.

“After a while everything died down so I went back to sleep,” she said. “I heard no sirens or anything.”

Homicide detectives and crime scene technicians remained at the scene Wednesday afternoon investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
