Detectives have identified the victims of a double homicide found last week in a Deerfield Beach home but have not revealed how the man and woman were killed.

Jessica Aponte, 41, and Luis Alberto Lopez Sanchez, 24, were found dead on Wednesday morning in Aponte’s home at 411 NE 39th St., where she lived alone, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

“Detectives are investigating a double homicide,” Veda Coleman-Wright, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, said Monday. “They have not released any additional details at this point in the investigation.”

A relative of Aponte’s on Monday said Sanchez was a family friend but declined further comment.

Aponte has previously lived in Durham, N.C., Coconut Creek, Margate, Pompano Beach, Tamarac and Oakland Park, public records show.

Aponte’s co-workers from a doctor’s office found the bodies about 9:40 a.m., Coleman-Wright said.

When Aponte didn’t show up for work, they were concerned and sent someone over, she said. They saw one of the victims through an open door and called 911.

A next-door neighbor said the sound of gunfire woke her up about 10 p.m. the night before the bodies were discovered.

“We heard about 6 or 7 shots, pow, pow, pow, pow,” Catherine Sanders, 76, said.

All quickly quieted down, Sanders said. She heard no sirens and soon fell back to sleep.

Investigators urge anyone with information to contact Detective John Curcio at 954-321-4212. Anonymous tips can be made to Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
