Florida Atlantic’s senior tight end Harrison Bryant was named to the Conference USA Football Preseason Team on Monday.

Last season, Bryant had 45 receptions for 662 yards and four touchdowns — second on the team in yards and receiving touchdowns to wideout Jovon Durante, who left the team a year early to pursue a professional career.

“I want to thank the coaches that selected me for this award as well as my teammates, coaches and support staff that has helped me grow on and off the field the past for years,” Bryant said in a statement.

Bryant, who became the first FAU tight end selected to a C-USA preseason team, was the lone Owl recognized this season. Notable snubs include senior offensive tackle Brandon Walton, senior linebacker Rashad Smith and junior cornerback James Pierre.

Smith was FAU’s leading tackler as a junior last year. He collected 86 tackles while also intercepting four passes. Pierre, a Deerfield Beach grad, had 55 stops a year ago and had an impressive spring.

Last season, FAU had C-USA’s preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in running back Devin “Motor” Singletary and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, respectively. Coach Lane Kiffin also was named Preseason Coach of the Year at this time last year, coming off an 11-3 campaign and conference title in 2017.
