Air ambulance lands in Sunderland churchyard

The air ambulance was called to a ‘medical incident’ in Sunderland this morning and a patient has been taken to hospital.

North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance Service were called to a Sunderland home shortly before 9am on Tuesday, May 26, to reports of an ongoing medical incident.

A patient was been taken to hospital via road accompanied by the air ambulance’s team.

Witnesses have reported seeing the air ambulance in the Springwell and Plains Farm area of Sunderland.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “We were called at 8.53am to a private address on Scrunton Avenue, in Plains Farm.

“We dispatched a double crewed ambulance, a rapid response paramedic, a specialist paramedic and we requested support from the GNAAS.”

A air ambulance spokesman added: “We flew at 9.03am to Sunderland to reports of an ongoing medical incident. We had a doctor and a paramedic on board who assisted NEAS at the scene.”
