Peaty warms up for World Championships with back-to-back golds in Rome

Swimming News

Adam Peaty bolstered his preparations for next month’s World Championships by claiming back-to-back gold medals at the 2019 Sette Colli Trophy in Rome.

In his last meet before heading to South Korea, Peaty produced two steady performances to win the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke titles.

The Olympic, world and European champion began the weekend by defending his 100m crown in 58.72 seconds, just shy of the championship record he set last year.

Peaty was made to work for his 50m gold, edging Brazilian pair Felipe Lima and Joao Gomes Junior.

The Loughborough NC swimmer touched the wall in 26.53 seconds, with only 0.15 seconds separating the top three swimmers.

Double joy for Williams

Millfield’s Brodie Williams won’t be heading to Gwangju, but again cemented his status as one of British swimming’s most exciting young talents.

The 20-year-old won the bronze medal in the Men’s 100m Backstroke, touching the wall in 54.23 seconds.

He left his best swim until last, though, taking gold in the Men’s 200m Backstroke in a personal best time of 1:56.26, more than a second clear of silver medallist Adam Telegdy, of Hungary.

Clark pipped at the wall

Loughborough NC’s Imogen Clark was agonisingly close to picking up a medal in the Women’s 50m Breaststroke, finishing fourth in 30.69 seconds.

Clark was only 0.07 seconds off a podium place in what proved a competitive race, with her teammate Sara Vasey sixth in 31.48.
