Former president George H.W. Bush is no stranger to Tallahassee.

The 41st president of the U.S. died Friday night at the age of 94. His death comes months after his wife, Barbara Bush, died at the age of 92 in April.

Here are some of the times George H.W. Bush visited the capital city:

2006

Bush made an appearance in Tallahassee while his son, Jeb Bush, was governor of Florida on Dec. 4, 2006. He was the last speaker at his son's six-year series of Leadership Council Forums.

Most of the forum focused on the then-governor and his family - complete with a 17-minute video of old ads, bloopers and more serious moments from Jeb Bush's eight years in office, according to a Tallahassee Democrat article.

When Bush was asked about the country's future, he was optimistic.

"I just don't see any system - and I've been to almost every country there is - that equals ours in terms of the spirit of the people. I'm not turned off by the kind of ugliness in the political climate today," Bush said.

"We are the greatest, freest country on the face of the earth. And I'm not going to change my view; I'm too old."

1999

When Jeb Bush was sworn into the governor's mansion, Bush was in attendance. His wife Barbara and soon-to-be President George W. Bush and his wife also were in attendance.

At the time, George H.W. Bush said he "never dreamed" of seeing his sons in such places. George W. Bush was then-governor of Texas.

"Leave the politics out of it," he said. "Just the wonder of having two sons as governors of two huge states - it's a wonderful day."

1998

Bush made a visit at a banquet of the Florida Retired Officers Association on May 16, 1998.

He gave a speech that was "devoted to self-deprecating jokes about his golf game, his fall from political power, his first parachute jump... (and) of what 'duty, honor and country' mean to aging military officers," according to a Tallahassee Democrat article.

He also told the audience that character matters in a leader.

"When people write about this quick little four-year period when I was the president, I hope it will be said that we honored the trust that was placed in us, that we faithfully discharged the awesome responsibilities with which we were entrusted, and that we treated the White House with respect," said Bush at the time.

While President, Bush stopped in Tallahassee to throw his support behind the re-election of U.S. Congressman Bill Grant.

When he was in town, Bush spoke to a crowd at Tom Brown Park, rubbed elbows with then-Florida State head football coach Bobby Bowden and visited with then-Florida governor Robert Martinez at the governor's mansion.
