Marking the third incident of gun violence at a student apartment complex in less than a month, Tallahassee Police are investigating a Tuesday morning shooting at the Aqua Palms apartments.

Officers arriving at the off-campus apartments near FSU at about 12:31 a.m. discovered one victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

TPD provided no other details, including the name, age or gender of the victim. The agency provides few details about active investigations and does not release any information about victims, pointing to its interpretation of Marsy's Law.

The latest incident of gun violence is at least the 37th this year in the capital city and Leon County in a rash of gun violence that has seen 33 injured and 7 killed, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of shootings. Ten of those shootings occurred in the last month.

One person is in seriously injured from a shooting that occurred at 12:31 a.m. Late Monday night.

Two previous shootings in the last couple weeks also took place at student apartment complexes. One person was shot dead May 27 at the Commons student apartments. The next day a 22-year-old man was arrested after police say he fired two rounds from a second story balcony at a car in the parking lot of the Dwell Tenn Street apartments.

A 20-year-old was killed at the Aqua Palms almost a year ago in a broad daylight shooting. Devante F. E. Robinson was killed outside Building 12 at Aqua Palms Apartments on June 20, 2018.

The latest shooting comes amid a countywide crackdown on gun violence in what law enforcement is calling an "unprecedented" operation to take criminals and guns off the street. On Monday, officials said they arrested 84 suspects and seized two guns and 13 pounds of drugs in the first week of the operation.

TPD's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the latest case. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call them at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
