A Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare patient jumped out of his fifth-floor room window Friday morning, landing on a second-story roof top.

The man, who was not identified by authorities, sustained life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital’s emergency room by first responders.

This view of TMH shows the part of the building, center, from which the person jumped, onto the lower part of the building.

The incident occurred at about 8 a.m. The patient was in a room on the general medical surgical floor with hospital staff members when he was able jump from the window.

In a joint news conference with Tallahassee Police Department officials, TMH CFO Bill Giudice provided few details but said the man’s family was notified and an investigation was underway.

“Our windows don’t open, and the patient was able to exit the building through the window, and that is part of the investigation to understand the sequence of events,” said Giudice.  “We had the patient under supervision, and all that will be something we can eventually discuss, but right now because of patient confidentiality we can’t.”

Bill Giudice, the Vice President CFO at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, left, shares the latest updates on a patient at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare who jumped from a fifth floor window and landed on a second floor rooftop early Friday morning, Aug. 16, 2019.

The case has been assigned to TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and Forensics Unit. Anyone with information is encouraged to call (850) 891-4200.
