Memorial Day remembrances may look a little different this year, but there are a few events throughout the region where people can say thank you to U.S military members who gave their lives in service to our country.

  • U.S. Rep. Al Lawson, D-Tallahassee, will be joined by state and local officials at the Greenwood Cemetery to honor 200 African-American veterans by placing American flags at their graves. The event, in which people will be socially distant, will begin at 8:30 a.m. Greenwood Cemetery is located at 1601 Old Bainbridge Road.
  • The Tallahassee National Cemetery is open to visitors with normal hours, 8 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Officials are asking that visitors follow federal health guidelines for face masks and social distancing. Cemetery officials will hold a private wreath laying that is not open to the public. The cemetery is at 5015 Apalachee Pkwy.
  • Big Bend Hospice is offering a Service of Remembrance filmed in its Veterans Memorial Garden. The service can be viewed on or after Memorial Day by visiting www.bigbendhospice.org or by following Big Bend Hospice on Facebook at facebook.com/bigbendhospicefan.
  • A Memorial Day remembrance is being hosted by Vietnam veteran Joe West, 10-10:30 a.m. at the veterans section of Oakland Cemetery, 838 N. Bronough St.
