A protester who was involved in several large gatherings in Tallahassee over the weekend was arrested after police say the individual had spraypainted the lenses of security cameras at the Florida Governor’s Mansion.

Nicholas Denney, 24, faces one count of damage to property criminal mischief. Denney was taken into custody Thursday on a warrant and will appear before a judge Friday.

Police say they watched Denney pull a can of paint from a backpack as protesters gathered in front of the executive mansion Saturday and then spray over two security cameras and a push-to-talk box.

Officers with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement took Denney’s picture, according to arrest documents.

Denney was present at a protest Sunday and Tuesday when a group marched to the Publix on Thomasville Road to protest three police killings in Tallahassee in the past three months.

Tuesday, investigators also say Denney was wearing the same clothes when spotted in the two previous days. They confirmed Denney's identity later.
