Roughly 50 Leon County Schools teachers gathered at the Aquilina Howell Center before Tuesday's School Board meeting to protest the reopening of physical schools.

The group held a press conference before engaging in a caravan-style protest. Protesters decorated their cars with signs that read "Open when safe" and "first nine online."

Speakers at the press conference included City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow, County Commissioner Bill Proctor, LCS teachers and a Leon High School student.

"We know that we are right, and that's why we are here," Proctor said. "Our common sense is on our side."

The official start data for both physical and digital schools in Leon County is set for Aug. 31.
