A homeless man with a long criminal history was arrested for attempted homicide after allegedly stabbing another man outside a West Tennessee Street gas station.

Anthony Guglielmo, 52, was arrested Oct. 7 after accusing a man sitting outside the Murphy gas station of stealing his cell phone and other items, according to a probable cause affidavit. He told the victim "he was going to die today," took out a folding pocket knife and stabbed him in the chest, the report says.

A gas station clerk told deputies with the Leon County Sheriff's Office that she found the victim lying on the ground outside and heard Guglielmo admit he stabbed the man.

Guglielmo told investigators he had been robbed the day before and was mad at someone for taking his cell phone. However, he denied stabbing anyone.

He has a history of arrests dating back to the 1980s in Alachua, Leon and Volusia counties, according to court documents. In 2013, he was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for aggravated assault after allegedly shoplifting at a local WalMart and threatening several security guards with a folding knife. He was released from prison last year.

Guglielmo, who pleaded not guilty, is being held without bond in the Leon County Detention Facility. Prosecutors asked that he remained jailed pending trial, saying in court documents that no conditions of release could reasonably protect the public.
