Tallahassee police: Man shot by unknown person while walking on the sidewalk on Rankin Ave.

Tallahassee police are investigating a shooting that sent a man to the hospital Thursday night.

Officers with the Tallahassee Police Department responded shortly before 8:30 p.m. to the 1500 block of Rankin Avenue to investigate a reported shooting.

"The adult male victim told police he had been walking on the sidewalk when an unknown person shot him," TPD said in a news release. "The victim was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries."

TPD is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 850-891-4200 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers line at 850-574-TIPS.

"This is an active investigation," TPD said, "and updates will be provided as they become available."

So far this year in Tallahassee and Leon County, there have been at least 38 shootings, killing 13 people and injuring 27, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis.
