Back by popular demand, ice skating returns Friday to the Centre of Tallahassee mall.

Turns out Tallahassee folks really like to ice skate.

The Centre of Tallahassee mall brought winter fun to the capital city by providing a real ice skating rink in 2015 and 2016; however, the mall opted to forego ice skating last year.

But that changes Friday.

"After not doing it last year, we received a lot of feedback from the community on how they were disappointed that we didn’t’ have it," said Te'Rel Bowman, general manager of the Pavillion — the mall's entertainment arena and outdoor amphitheater.

The ice rink will be around through Feb. 3. It will be open Thursdays through Sundays and every day during the public schools' winter break, excluding Christmas day. It will be open on New Year's Day. The cost is $12, which includes skates for sessions lasting an hour and a half.

The closest ice rinks to Tallahassee are in Jacksonville and Pensacola.

"It is very different. It’s something that no one in the region has,” Bowman said.
