Florida-based franchise 5 Star Pizza has opened a new Tallahassee location on Governor Square Boulevard.

When one pizza joint closes, another one opens in the same location.

Florida-based franchise 5 Star Pizza opened today in the former Jet's Pizza location on Governor Square Boulevard. Jet's Pizza, the 12th largest pizza chain in the U.S. and known for its square-shaped slices, opened its only Tallahassee location in Feb. 2017.

But it closed almost a year later and was put up for auction as a "complete pizza restaurant" with equipment that is "in great condition and is like new."

The new restaurant is the third pizza restaurant to operate on or off Magnolia Drive between Tennessee Street and Apalachee Parkway. It's now competition for Marco's Pizza and Blaze Pizza.

Robert Minichino, one of the local owners, said their New York-style pies tend to be larger than others served by their competitors.

"A small here is a medium (in other places)," he said, adding the restaurant makes its dough daily and everything from scratch. "You get more pizza for less."

The menu also includes pepperoni and garlic rolls, wings and specialty pizzas such as chicken bacon ranch, bacon double cheeseburger and Philly cheese steak.

The Tallahassee location is open until 3 a.m daily. Other franchise cities include Gainesville, Ocala, Jacksonville and St. Petersburg.
