Tallahassee ranked in the top 10 cities in the 2019 Smart Asset "Cities for Career Opportunities" listing.

Landing at No. 8, the capital city was among 355 cities examined through seven metrics, such as unemployment rate, change in total employment from 2018 to 2019 and income growth overtime.

This is the fifth annual study conducted by Smart Asset, a financial technology company. Key findings show Utah with two cities in the top 10 in the last two years (Provo, UT — No. 1; Logan, UT — No. 2 for 2019).

Tallahassee ranked No. 8 in the 2019 Smart Asset listing: Cities for Career Opportunities

"The cities that do well on this list aren’t huge towns like New York and Los Angeles," the study said. "Instead, comparatively smaller cities with plenty of industry but relatively lower housing costs tend to be the places where you can maximize your potential at the beginning of your career."

Here's what the study said about Tallahassee:

"Tallahassee, Florida is the state capital and home to yet another major university, Florida State University. It has the third-highest rate of income growth with time in our top 10, 52.86%. Tallahassee also has the second-highest concentration of higher education teachers per 1,000 workers in our study’s top 25, at 34.26. That’s a top-5 rate in our study as a whole, and is likely due to the presence of Florida State and Florida A&M, two local universities. Annual median income in Tallahassee is $35,510."
