Baseball is the family business for the Martins.

However, Mike Martin, Jr. - while paying respect and homage to his father, Mike Martin - wanted Florida State fans on Monday to know that he has his own coaching style.

"We will recruit faster and earlier. We're going to do things the right way. Everyone in this organization will know exactly what I want," Martin, Jr. said.

On Monday, Martin was officially introduced during a press conference inside the Moore Athletic Center. He replaced his father, who retired after 40 seasons as the Seminoles coach and the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history in any sport.

Martin, Jr.'s two sons were in attendance, in addition to a number of current players and football coach Willie Taggart and assistants Ron Dugans, David Kelly and Donte Pimpleton.

Martin, Jr.'s parents - Martin and wife Carol - and sister Mary Beth Buchanan attended a reception for Martin, Jr. in the Champions Club following the press conference.

"It's an honor to stand before you as the head coach here at Florida State, " said Martin, Jr., dressed in a blue suit with a gold and garnet striped tie.

"This place is special and it's the only place I wanted I've ever wanted to be. I can promise you, no staff will work harder or smarter to keep this program moving forward and upward," Martin said.

Florida State President John Thrasher and Director of Athletics David Coburn also spoke during  the press conference.

During his 30 minutes at the podium giving opening remarks followed by a question-and-answer period, Martin, Jr. addressed a variety of issues from his coaching philosophy to finances.

Perhaps the biggest statement FSU's new coach made was that he is "Mike Martin, Jr – not Mike Martin, Sr."

Florida State University President John Thrasher and Mike Martin Jr. listen as Athletic Director David Coburn speaks at a press conference held to officially announce Martin as the next head baseball coach for FSU Monday, June 24, 2019.

The new coach will incorporate plans to match his personality for 2020. These tidbits include removing last names from jerseys, playing from the third base dugout and an aggressive approach to recruiting. He also wants his players to be all-around student-athletes.

"When it comes to giving tours of our athletic facilities, I will have my hand in that," Martin, Jr. "I want them right mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. We'll go to the ends of the earth to make sure they have every opportunity to be right."

Martin is currently in the process of hiring his assistant coaches. His contract also must be finalized.

However, when it comes to hitting, Martin, Jr., already has a mindset for the player's approach in the box. He stated he doesn't want batters taking pitches in the inner third or fastball in the middle of the plate.

While his hire comes as no surprise, FSU officials said they still conducted a thorough interview for the position.

Coburn explained he examined every aspect of the program before coming to a decision on the next head coach.

"I spent a lot of time studying this team from Athens to Baton Rouge and Omaha," Coburn said. "I had the opportunity to observe him interacting with player, fans and the press. I observed his work ethic and attention to detail. I came away impressed. We talked about schedule, staff, fundraising and culture. Frankly, he blew the doors off. For me, that clinched it."

Along with talking about the future of Florida State baseball, Martin also humbly thanked his parents for being in his corner.
