WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Florida State coach Willie Taggart's future status as head coach of the Seminoles has been constantly debated after the 8-10 start to his tenure in Tallahassee.

The Seminoles (3-3, 2-2 ACC) are coming off a 45-14 blowout loss at Clemson last week and have struggled in Taggart's second year.

The Seminoles take on Wake Forest (5-1, 1-1 ACC) at 7:30 p.m. today at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem, North Carolina looking to bounce back from that loss.

ESPN College GameDay discussed his future again on Saturday with former FSU running back Lee Corso saying Taggart deserves more time to get things back on track.

"Florida State should get coach Taggart the four years he signed for," Corso said ont he broadcast.

"Morally and physically and financially, it's the right thing to do. Now after four years, all options are open... He deserves the chance to stay for four years."

Taggart's contract runs through January, 31, 2024, which means he has just over four years left.

The Seminoles missed a bowl game for the first time since 1981 in Taggart's first season, which broke the longest bowl streak in college football.

FSU has suffered losses to Boise State, Virginia, and Clemson this season with wins over Louisiana-Monroe, Louisville, and North Carolina State.

So far during his tenure, the Seminoles are 0-4 against rivals Clemson, Miami, and Florida. They will get two more opportunities this season with UM and UF still on the schedule.

College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit was skeptical about FSU keeping Taggart for that amount of time.

"Today, I think with the noise and the pressure around, tough to do unless they are able to turn this thing around because it is, it's not just bad, I mean it's been historically bad," Herbstreit said.

College GameDay host Rece Davis mentioned how well some coaches were doing turning programs around in one year. He mentioned Mack Brown at North Carolina and the crew also spoke about Louisville's Scott Satterfield and the job he's done.

Taggart's buyout at FSU is 85% of his remaining contract, which will be at just over $17 million at the end of the 2019 season.
