Florida announced 1,305 more recorded coronavirus infections and 54 additional deaths on Friday as the state continues its Phase 2 reopening plan.
Of those deaths, 13 were in the Tampa Bay area.
Additional cases was being diagnosed as health experts predict even more coronavirus cases in the future, due to the large number of people packing the streets for protests against police brutality.
How fast is the number of Florida COVID-19 cases growing?
Morning updates typically show low numbers for the current day.
What’s the picture in the state?
Across Florida, there have been 61,488 recorded cases of coronavirus, and 2,745 deaths.
Of those deaths, about half are tied to long-term care facilities, which house the most vulnerable populations. Manatee and Pinellas counties have seen especially bad nursing home outbreaks. Freedom Square, a retirement community in Seminole, has experienced the second most deadly outbreak in the state after losing 24 residents and a staffer.
More than a million people in Florida have been tested for coronavirus. Within that group, 5.4 percent of tests come back as positive, a number that has dropped over the months as testing became more available.
Though positive cases are spread in a bell curve across different age groups, the bulk of Florida’s 10,794 hospitalizations come from people age 45 and over.

Doctors say older people are at a greater risk to developing severe symptoms from COVID-19, which makes Florida especially vulnerable.
