A Middleton High School student faces charges after police said he posted a threat against his school Thursday on social media.

The student, 15, threatened to use an automatic weapon on students and referenced “blowing up” the school, according to the Tampa Police Department.

He first denied any knowledge of the written threat, police said, but later admitted to the act with the cooperation of his father.

The student faces charges of making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism.

He will not be returning to Middleton, according to a robocall sent to parents by school principal Tiatasha Brown. The threat was not related to fights that broke out at the school that same day, according to the call.

“These incidents do not define our school or the vast majority of our students,” Brown said on the call.
