The Duchess of Sussex hasn’t even been a royal for 12 months, yet she’s already due to inherit her first royal patronage from the Queen, according to reports in the Times.

Her majesty is currently the patron of around 600 different organisations, but as she gets older, she has been delegating more and more royal duties. In 2016 alone she stepped down from 25 roles in total, and has passed many on to her closest relatives, including the Duchess of Cambridge, who is now patron of Wimbledon.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are rumoured to have met with the Queen over tea to discuss what Meghan’s first royal patronage might be, although it seems likely that it will have something to do with women’s rights.

In recent months, she’s undertaken her first solo project as a royal, the Together cookbook for survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire, and made an impassioned speech about the suffragettes while in New Zealand on the royal tour.
