The first glimpse of the Gossip Girl reboot has been released

Attention Upper East Siders, new photos have been released from the set of the upcoming Gossip Girl revival

In the paparazzi shots from the show’s set in New York, new cast members Eli Brown and Whitney Peak can be seen exiting a building in the rain with Brown sharing his corduroy jacket to put over the shoulders of Peak’s sparkling silver mini dress, could this be the first romance of the new series?

Although there is much yet to be revealed in the coming months, here is everything we do know about the reboot:

The original costume designer is returning

The show’s original costume designer, Eric Daman, is set to return for the show’s revival. Much like any spin-off from a well-loved series, many Gossip Girl fans were sceptical at first but bringing back such an important part of the original, die-hard fans can rest assured Daman will resurrect the style of everybody’s favourite teen drama at its very finest. Daman told Teen Vogue in true Constance Billard School style, ‘OMGG I am sooo thrilled to be a part of the new GG Generation! It has been incredible to see the youth of today discovering and bingeing GG during these times!! Very excited to delight and inspire all of the GG Fans, new and OG, with some delicious, trendsetting fashions for this new era! Can’t Wait!! XoXo, E.’

Kristen Bell is on board too

It was announced late last year that Kristen Bell would also return to narrate the show, although the idea of the Gossip Girl blog has been updated for the current climate. With Gossip Girl’s identity being revealed at the end of the original seasons, the voice of Gossip Girl will now be all of us. “It didn't really feel like a group of adults who were being controlled by Gossip Girl would make a lot of sense," said the shows creator Josh Schwartz during a TCA panel in 2019, "So it felt like there was something really interesting about this idea that we are all Gossip Girl now, in our own way, that we are all purveyors of our own social media surveillance state, and how that's evolved, and how that has morphed and mutated and telling that story through a new generation of upper east side high school kids felt like the right time."

There’s new cast members

Although the reboot is set in the same universe as the original show, there is a whole new cast except for Kristen Bell. Back in March the new cast was revealed with a host of fresh new faces. Emily Alyn Lind, Eli Brown and Whitney Peak will take lead roles while Johnathan Fernandez, and Jason Gotay have also been announced as part of the show’s revival.

The release is expected for 2021

After a few months delay, production officially started on the 2 November and is expected to be released in 2021 on HBO’s streaming service HBO Max.
