Canterbury rallies from 24-0 deficit to end Master's Academy's season

St. Petersburg-Canterbury's eight-player football team needed a dramatic rally Friday night to end Master's Academy's season.

Senior quarterback Harrison Holsinger passed for 210 yards and four touchdowns, the last in the final 90 seconds, as the Crusaders defeated the Patriots 28-24 in an FCAPPS quarterfinal playoff game at Gifford Park.

Master's Academy (9-2) led 24-0 before Canterbury got going after the Patriots lost senior linebacker Bradley Dampier to an elbow injury and center Garrett Boyer to a knee injury.

Master's was in position to win after stopping Canterbury on fourth down at the 2 with 3 minutes to play.

After gaining a first down, the Patriots fumbled and Canterbury recovered with 1:31 to play to set up the final touchdown.

Master’s sophomore quarterback Jordan Girton rushed for a team-high 107 yards and was 11 of 16 for 147 yards. He ran for one touchdown and passed for another.

Senior running Brandon Dampier added 123 yards — 63 rushing, 60 receiving — and led the defense with 6.5 tackles and one interception.

Canterbury will play Citi Christian (Miami) in an FCAPPS semifinal. Citi defeated Old Plank Christian Academy 19-18.
