Lewis Hamilton wins the 2019 French GP

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton won the 2019 French Grand Prix ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas in second place and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc in third.

Having started from pole position, Hamilton lead the race all the way to the checkered flag. The reigning world champion crossed the finish line more than 18 seconds ahead of Bottas. Leclerc lined up third on the grid but failed to mount any sort of pressure on the two Mercedes cars ahead. 

Red Bull's Max Verstappen finished in fourth place ahead of Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) in fifth. Vettel tried an overcut on Verstappen by running a longer first stint, but failed. However, he did secure the bonus point for the fastest lap of the race.

Both McLarens showed great pace throughout the weekend. Carlos Sainz finished in sixth place. Lando Norris, who was nursing a hydraulics issue with his car had a last lap scrap with Renault's Daniel Ricciardo for seventh place. The rookie was forced off the track and dropped to 10th place. Ricciardo was later handed two 5 second time penalties for re-joining the track unsafely and forcing another driver off the track and leaving the track and gaining an advantage. He was relegated to 11th place.

The Ricciardo-Norris incident promoted Kimi Raikkonen (Alfa Romeo) and Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) to 7th and 8th place respectively. Norris was promoted to 9th and Red Bull's Pierre Gasly took 10th.

Lewis Hamilton extends his lead in the world driver's championship, while Mercedes continue to be at the top of the constructor's championship. The next race will be held in Austria on June 30, 2019.
