Fitchburg airport gets grant to rebuild runway, rehab taxiway

Fitchburg Municipal Airport has received $13.8 million from the Federal Aviation Administration to extend and reconstruct its runway and rehabilitate its taxiway, according to a press release from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The money is part of $27 million in FAA Airport Improvement Program Grants awarded to 10 publicly owned airports in the state to support safety, infrastructure and environmental projects.

Orange Municipal Airport received $53,550 for an environmental assessment for a new hazard beacon light for air navigation.

Grants ranged from $53,550 to the $13.8 million awarded to Fitchburg, according to the press release.
