Joining other colleges in the region, Fitchburg State University this week announced it will reopen campus to students for the fall semester.

The school will offer a mix of in-person classes and remote instruction, and will allow students to live in reconfigured residence halls.

"Our goal is to offer as much flexibility for students and faculty as possible," President Richard S. Lapidus said. "The combination of course types and numbers are still under consideration, with the understanding that certain courses require in-class delivery, and conversely, reducing the number of people on campus at one time is an important consideration."

Like all colleges in the state, Fitchburg State sent students home in mid-March and instituted a remote learning model to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Other colleges that plan to welcome students back to campus this fall include Anna Maria College, Clark University, Holy Cross, Nichols College and Worcester State University.
