Wrestler Geeta Phogat, who won India’s first-ever gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, 2010, will be the chief guest at the Patna Marathon 2018 on December 16.

Patna divisional commissioner Robert L. Chongthu on Saturday unveiled the official T-shirt and medal of the second edition of the marathon.

This year, the marathon is divided into three categories and its registration has started online on `www.patnamarathonbihar.com`. The offline registration is being done at the branches of Gold’s Gym — on Boring Road and Rajendra Nagar — and at the Lounge Before Wicket (LBW) restaurant in Rajvanshi Nagar.

The three categories in which the marathon is divided are 4km, 10km and 21.1km. The first category participants have to run from Gandhi Maidan gate number 1 and take a U-turn from the Income Tax roundabout.

The second category participants have to run from Gandhi Maidan gate number 1 and take a U-turn from Karpoori roundabout near Eco Park. The third category participants have to run from Gandhi Maidan gate number 1 and take a U-turn from the last end of Bailey Road flyover at Rajabazar.

The marathon is conceptualised by Elamai Enterprises. The registration fee for the 4km run is Rs 400, the 10km is Rs 800 and 21.1km is Rs 900. Winners in every category would get the prize money and the total prize money is Rs 10 lakh.

Director of Elamai Enterprises Yashwant Giri said so far registration of around 2,500 people was completed in which many are from outside Bihar and two runners are from Kenya as well.

To motivate people to take part, Dharmendra Kumar who ran for 110km from Nalanda to Patna last year, will run for 12 hours (6.30am to 6.30pm) on Sunday.

The organiser showed the video footage of deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and energy department principal secretary Pratyaya Amrit encouraging people to participate in the marathon. In the video, Amrit is seen running as well. The theme of the marathon is Socho Mat Daudo (don’t think run).

Chongthu said the district administration will provide all support to the organisers and like last year, the marathon 2018 would be successful. As the run will be organised between 6.30am and 8.30am, there would be almost no traffic problems though police have been asked to make diversions if required.

Organisers expect a participation of around 6,000 people. Last year, legendary sprinter Milkha Singh had flagged off the race.
