The TrueNat test for quick Covid-19 detection has started at Sadar Hospital in the state capital.

Six samples were tested on Tuesday, the first day, and all the samples were collected from pregnant women admitted for delivery at the Sadar Hospital.

Laboratory technician Dinesh Prasad said the tests were done on the recommendation of doctors.

“The report of TrueNat test for Covid-19 detection comes within an hour and thus the patients who need treatment in a hurry are recommended for this test by doctors,” Prasad said.

He said the facility has come as great relief for pregnant women.

“Apart from Ranchi, the facility also started in Sahebganj, Giridih and Dumka. Apart from pregnant women, patients requiring dialysis will also benefit from this,” Prasad added.

District civil surgeon Dr Vijay Bihari Singh said one TrueNat machine has been installed at the TB Centre of the hospital.

“This machine has been procured by the TB centre. The health department has procured 30 more TrueNat test machines. I expect that at least one more from those procured machines will be provided to Ranchi district,” Dr Singh said. “General timing for testing will be from 10am to 5pm but testing can be done when required. Deputation of laboratory technicians will also be done according to requirement. This machine will be of great help for all,” he added.
