Ranchi: A joint team of police and Ranchi forest division raided a shop in crowded Upper Bazar here late on Saturday evening on a tip-off to recover about 50 body parts of wild animals.

Items found include claws of tigers and bears, tusks of elephants, bearskin, peacock feathers and parts of lizards.

Confirming the sensational findings, Ranchi divisional forest officer Rajiv Bakshi said the final list of the items was yet to be made. "Their cost evaluation is yet to happen. Depending on the seller and buyer, these items can be sold at Rs 50,000 or Rs 5 lakh apiece, just as an estimate," he said.

The shop, named Vijay Stores, near the landmark Mahavir Chowk in the crowded wholesale hub, was a nondescript outlet "selling household items as a front", a member of the raid team told the paper.

The operation was swift and lasted for only five to seven minutes, a policeman said. Three persons are believed to have been detained till the time of filing this report.
