On Wednesday, all government offices, educational institutions and commercial banks remained closed as the state government declared a public holiday.

Addressing a programme at Vanapa Hall here on Wednesday, Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan said: “Credit must go to the strong civil society here. We have transitioned from years of struggle to become one of the most peaceful states in the country.”

“Greetings to people of Mizoram on its Statehood Day. Fondly remember the warmth of people of the state and the grand reception I got during my visit. My best wishes to this beautiful state in its journey towards development,” Kovind said in a tweet.

Modi said, “The people of Mizoram are known for their valour and rich values. The entire nation is proud of Mizo culture and the contribution for the state to India’s pro-gress. Praying for Mizoram’s growth in the coming years.”
