Guwahati: The All Assam Non-Provincialised High School and High Madrassa Teachers' Association on Monday slammed the BJP-led state government for irregularities in provincialisation of schools and demanded immediate provincialisation of 227 high schools and high madarsas.

Secretary of the association Ranjit Mazumdar said: "Altogether 227 high schools and high madarsas and the services of approximately 3,000 teaching employees, which were recognised by the government in 2004, 2005 and 2006, had to be provincialised under the Assam Education (Provincialisation of Services of Teachers and Reorganisation of Educational Institutions) Act, 2011.

"The matter was in process under the finance department for the grant of provincialisation of services. In the meantime, the government changed and the new government stopped the previous provincialisation process in 2017."

"The government then promised to provincialise the high schools and high madarsas through the introduction of Assam Education (Provincialisation of Services of Teachers and Reorganisation of Educational Institutions) Amendment Bill, 2018, which was passed in the Assam Assembly in April this year, but still the matter is pushed to the corner."

Majumdar said, "The government also prefers the issue date of the recognised schools in 2004, 2005 and 2006 that have completed 10 years, for provincialisation. Inspite of fulfilling all these conditions, the teaching employees are living a deplorable life."

"The teachers had to live without salaries for the last 25-30 years. The government has stopped financial assistance of teachers since 2013 when it declared the schools recognised from 2004-2006 come under the purview of the act of provincialisation," association president Kuchal Ch. Kumar, said.
