Nashville restaurants: What opened and closed in May

Five restaurants, including an outpost of popular chicken chain Chick-fil-A, debuted in May in Nashville, while a couple high-profile eateries closed their doors.

A sandwich from Easy 8 in Printers Alley

Easy 8

The newest addition to the Dream Hotel in Printer’s Alley is Easy 8, which features a rotating menu of eight signature sandwich items. The restaurant is open from 4 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, making it a good spot for a late-night bite. Menu items include the Nashville Dog made with Kobe beef, chow-chow and house pickles; a turkey reuben; and the Hangover Wrap with egg, sausage, black beans, guacamole, pico and lettuce.

Waldo's Chicken & Beer

This casual fried and roasted chicken eatery debuted in Germantown in the former Little Donkey space. Chicken comes four ways: on the bone, on a bun, in a basket or in a bowl. Housemade sides include French fries, potato wedges, mac 'n' cheese, white beans, coleslaw and tomato cucumber salad.

Emmy Squared

The talented duo behind the Pizza Loves Emily family of restaurants plan to open their Green Hills outpost of Emmy Squared on May 31. The pizzeria — which has a location in the Gulch — will be serving up its square pizzas with stripes of sauce added post-baking (known as Detroit-style pizza), small plates, sandwiches and the Le Big Matt burger, which is a double-stack of Bear Creek Farms beef patties topped with American cheese, greens, pickles and sauce.

Santo

This Green Hills restaurant from the owners of Epice in 12South serves modern Mediterranean cuisine for lunch and dinner. The menu includes lamb tartare, shaved vegetable salad, halibut, Moroccan chicken and ricotta gnudi.

Chick-fil-A opened a new restaurant on 8th Avenue South in Nashville.

Chick-fil-A

The Atlanta-based restaurant chain with a cult-like following in the South debuted its newest Nashville location at the former Krystal site on Eighth Avenue South. This location is Nashville’s first drive-thru-only Chick-fil-A restaurant. It features two drive-thru ordering lanes, a patio with 60 outdoor seats and pedestrian-friendly walk-up ordering and pick-up windows.

MAY CLOSINGS

Le Sel

The brothers behind Strategic Hospitality decided to close their French restaurant Le Sel after a nearly four-year run in Midtown.

Burger Shack

This West Coast-style burger joint in Nolensville closed and is searching for a new location in the Nashville area. Updates will be posted on the restaurant's Facebook and website.
