Woman dies after being hit by garbage truck

A pedestrian struck by a Metro garbage truck has died, Nashville police confirmed. 

Dalachandra Washington, 47, was struck while crossing the road Friday morning. 

Washington, police reported, had just gotten off an eastbound bus on Shelby Avenue at South Sixth Street at 8:30 a.m.

She moved in front of the bus and out into the street, police say, not in a crosswalk. 

There, she was hit by a the garbage truck driven by a 49-year-old man, police report. 

Washington was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she later died.
