One killed in Donelson Pike crash near Nashville airport

Nashville police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed one passenger and injured three people early Thursday on Donelson Pike.

The crash was reported around 3:12 a.m. near the Nashville International Airport. The investigation shut down the northbound and southbound lanes of Donelson Pike in front of the airport. The roadway re-opened around 6:20 a.m.

Metro police identified the passenger killed as Fabien Elocho, 47, of Tanglewood Court.

According to police, an investigation shows that a 2016 Toyota Camry driven by Rupa Shiba, 34, crossed over into oncoming traffic at 3 a.m. and struck the driver of a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck, Lenard Richardson, 70.

Police said Richardson suffered non-critical injuries in the wreck.

Elocho, a rear passenger in the Camry, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

Shiba and a second passenger, Esther Elocho, 21, were also transported to VUMC where they were both in stable condition late Thursday morning.

Police investigation

Everyone who rode in the Camry wore a seat belt, police said.

There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene, police said.

The contributing factor to this fatal crash, investigators determined, is Shiba’s failure, for reasons unknown, to maintain her lane of travel.
