A motorcyclist from Fairview was killed Sunday night in a collision that involved two vehicles at Murfreesboro Road and Hobson Pike in Nashville, according to police.

Jacob Mathis, 22, was riding a Suzuki motorcycle south on Murfreesboro Pike when he crashed with a northbound Ford Edge. Police believe the Ford Edge had turned left onto Hobson Pike and pulled in front of Mathis, according to the initial investigation.

The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the SUV and Mathis was thrown from the bike, police said.

Mathis was then struck by a second vehicle, described as a Ford Ranger pickup truck, which did not stop, police said. Mathis was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died, police said.

The cause of the crash appears to be failure to yield on the part of the driver of the Ford Edge according to the initial investigation, police said.

There was no evidence of alcohol use at the scene. The driver of the Ford Edge admitted to drinking three beers earlier on Sunday, according to police.

A blood sample from the driver of the Ford Edge will be analyzed by police for alcohol and drug content.
