A man is accused of cutting his supervisor's throat on Friday, according to an arrest affidavit.

John W. Herren walked into his workplace, the civil engineering firm Dale & Associates, around noon carrying two knives, went behind the desk of his supervisor, grabbed his head and cut his throat, the affidavit said.

The supervisor then fled from the office, at which point Herren dropped one of his knives and fled the premises as well, taking the knife used to cut his supervisor, according to the affidavit. The dropped knife was recovered by Berry Hill Police.

John W. Herren, 40, is accused of cutting his supervisor's throat, nearly slicing his main artery.

The supervisor was taken to Centennial Medical Center to be treated for superficial lacerations on his throat. Emergency medical services noted that he was fortunate as the cut was very close to a main artery.

Herren was apprehended by the Ashland City Police Department a short time later. He has been charged with attempted criminal homicide and is currently being held on bond set at $250,000.

Dale & Associates is owned by prominent Nashville engineer and businessman Roy Dale, who was not injured in the incident.
