Nashville police investigate fatal shooting on Lafayette Street Friday night

Metro Nashville Police were investigating a shooting on Lafayette Street on Friday evening. 

MNPD told media one person is dead after a single gunshot wound to the chest. No additional information was immediately available, and the victim has not been identified. 

A shooting call came into dispatch around 6:45 p.m. Friday, MNPD confirmed, reportedly in the 100 block of Lafayette in southeast Nashville. 

The shooting happened outside the Southside Market and Deli, which is next to the Holy Ground Church of God and Flagg’s Barber Shop, and across the street from JC Napier Homes. Following the shooting, the market was still open, along with the church.

At the scene, there appeared to be scattered clothes and personal items in the area. Police closed off the block as they investigated the scene.

Around 9:40 p.m. the police reopened the street and cleared the scene.
