Suspect in fatal Nashville gas-station shooting arrested in North Carolina: U.S. Marshals
Update 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 23: U.S. Marshals arrested Leroy Dallas Topp Jr., 31, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Tuesday after receiving a tip from the Nashville-area U.S. Marshals Task Force.
Metro Nashville police have identified a suspect in the April 18 shooting of Carlos Logan outside a Harding Place gas station.
Leroy Dallas Topp Jr., 31, is facing homicide charges in connection with the shooting.
Police say Topp may be driving a gray extended cab Ford F-150 pickup truck.
According to police Capt. Daniel Newbern, officers responded just after 1 a.m. Thursday to the Mobil gas station at 361 Harding Place and found a person in front of the entrance to the business suffering from a single gunshot wound to his torso.
The victim, later identified by police as Carlos Logan, 34, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
A review of the surveillance video, Newbern said, indicated an argument between the victim and shooter led to a physical scuffle in the parking lot.
The victim left the business, but a short time later, video shows, the victim returned to the business and was shot by the suspect.
Topp has previously been convicted in Michigan on charges of homicide-manslaughter and assault with intent to commit murder.
Anyone with information about the suspect or case is asked to call 615-742-7463. Police said Tuesday that Topp has ties to Clarksville, Texas and Michigan.
