A 31-year-old Nashville man was killed in what investigators believe was a targeted shooting on Saturday, according to a Metro Nashville Police statement.

Aaron Washington was shot and killed about 4 p.m. Saturday in an alley near 23rd Avenue North and Formosa Street, according to the statement.

Washington, a resident of Sylvan Street, was shot in the chest and found lying in a nearby yard. He was then transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died.

Witnesses told police they heard about five gunshots and then saw Washington running down Formosa Street. Officers located two vehicles nearby that belonged to Washington, who apparently frequented the area.

Investigators were working Sunday morning to determine a motive to the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and can qualify for a cash reward.
