Teachers from Fairview Elementary and Westwood Elementary celebrated and visited with the students they have missed over the last few weeks by participating in the bus brigade last month.

The brigade took teachers on bus routes throughout the city where students were waiting to cheer them on.

"Teachers had fun decorating the buses and were excited to see that a lot of the students had signs and decorations as well," said Lauren Tortorelli, librarian at Fairview Elementary. "It was a great way to end a school year unlike any other."

Fairview Commissioner Derek Burks talked about the brigade at the commission meeting and thanked teachers for setting up the event.

"I was involved with my son, taking him to say bye to his teachers today. And it was nice to have that sense of closure," Burks said. "I appreciate the teachers taking the time to do."
