At-large Metro Council member Steve Glover abruptly dropped his lawsuit against the city after the immigration policy he was challenging was reversed.

Glover had sued to block former Mayor David Briley's executive order calling for the repeal of a state law that banned so-called “sanctuary city” policies. New Mayor John Cooper reversed the order last week, calling it flawed.

A judge approved the voluntary dismissal of Glover's suit Monday in Davidson County Chancery Court. The judge said the council member asked to dismiss the suit. The city will pay court costs.

Briley's order also required Metro departments and employees to report requests for help from federal immigration agencies. Glover said Briley's order put the city at risk of losing jobs and state funding.

Cooper said that, instead of the order, he would create a task force to make recommendations on how the city should interact with federal agencies.
